One pot Mutton gravy/Goat gravy

Ingredients:

Mutton
300 Gms (cut into small pieces)
Small onions/shallots
150 Gms sliced
Onion (Medium)
1 chopped
Ginger garlic paste
 1 tbsp
Tomato (large)
1 chopped
Chilly powder
1 and 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder
 1/2 tsp
Cumin powder/jeera powder
2 tsp
Water
 1/2 cup
Salt
1/2 tsp
For tempering:

Oil
3 tbsp
Cinnamon
4 small pieces
Cumin seeds/Jeera
 1/2 tsp
Fennel seeds
1/2 tsp
A few curry leaves

For garnishing:

Chopped coriander leaves

Method:
  1. Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pressure cooker pan. When hot add cinnamon, cumin seeds and fennel seeds. ( rub fennel and cumin seeds between palms and then add)
  2. When they start to splutter add sliced small onions, chopped onions and few curry leaves
  3. Fry for 3 min in medium flame. Onions turn golden
  4. Now add ginger garlic paste and fry for 1 min
  5. Add in the turmeric powder, chilly powder cumin powder and fry without burning the spice powders
  6. Add chopped tomato, salt and fry until soft ( 2 min)
  7. Add mutton pieces and sauté for 2 min on high heat
  8. Pour 1/2 cup of water, mix well
  9. Check salt .If needed add more
  10. Close cooker and cook (2 whistles on high and 5 min on low heat)
  11. Once steam is released open cooker. If you want to thicken the gravy, simmer on low heat until the gravy reaches desired consistency
  12. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves

Notes:
  • I have used small onions and red onion in this recipe; you can add the same or just add small onions or common red onions
  • There is no coriander powder added in this recipe, so the gravy depends on the amount of onion you use, if you want more gravy add more onions
  • Adjust chilly powder according to taste
  • Cooking time may vary depending on the mutton
  • The same recipe can be followed for chicken gravy too
