Crab Masala / Nandu masala



Introduction:
This crab masala / Nandu masala is spicy, aromatic and flavorful. The masala/gravy is made with  onions,tomato ,ginger garlic ,drumstick leaves, coconut  and spices. This spicy crab masala is best when served with rice. Do try this recipe and give us your feedback….

Ingredients:

To grind:

Coconut (grated)  
3/4 cup (loosely packed)
Chilly powder
1 + 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder
1 tsp
Cumin seeds / jeera
1/2 tbsp
To prepare gravy:
Oil

3 tbsp
Onions (medium)
3 chopped
Ginger garlic paste
1/2 tbsp
Tomatoes (medium)
4 chopped
Crab (medium)

Salt
 to taste
Drumstick leaves (moringa leaves)
handful
Pepper powder
1/2 tbsp
Method:
  1. Add grated coconut, chilly powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds into a mixie/blender jar
  2. Add little water and grind into a smooth paste. Keep it aside
  3. In a kadai/pan heat oil .When hot add chopped onions, a little salt and fry until soft
  4. Add ginger garlic paste and fry until no raw smell
  5. Then add chopped tomatoes and fry until soft and mushy
  6. Add the cleaned crabs and fry for 2 mins on medium flame
  7. Now add the ground coconut paste and a little water(do not add too much  water- as the crab meat will ooze out water which is more than enough for it to cook)
  8. Check salt and if needed add more
  9. Boil for 2 mins on medium flame and then add drumstick leaves
  10. Mix well and allow it boil on medium flame until gravy thickens (7 to 10 mins – by this time the crabs will be cooked)
  11. Sprinkle pepper powder, mix well and switch off the stove
  12. Crab masala is ready to serve
  13. Serve with rice

Notes:
  • I have used dried drumstick leaves, you can use fresh leaves or dried leaves whichever is available
  • Adjust pepper powder and chilly powder according to taste
