Introduction:
Mutton pepper curry /Kulambu is a traditional South Indian
curry /kulambu. This mutton curry is spicy with bursting flavours and wonderful
aroma. If you love pepper flavored curry, then you should definitely try this recipe..It
goes well with cooked rice, idli, dosa, chapathi, roti…Each region in South India
has its own style of preparing this curry..And this is the way I prepare this

For curry/kulambu:

Thick coconut milk

Method:
To grind:
- In a mixie/ blender jar add all the ingredients under (to grind list) and grind to a smooth paste
Curry / kulambu preparation:
- Pour oil into a cooker pan and heat it. When hot, add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, black stone flower/Kalpasi, star anise, few curry leaves, few coriander leaves, few mint leaves, green chilly and fry for I min
- Add small onions/shallots, julienned ginger & garlic and fry until onions turn golden brown
- Add mutton pieces, turmeric powder and sauté on high heat for 2 mins
- Add chopped tomatoes and salt. Fry until tomatoes are cooked. Add potatoes and give a quick mix
- Now pour the ground coconut masala and water and mix well
- Check salt and if needed add more salt & water .Close cooker and cook (3 whistles on high flame and 5 minutes on low flame) .Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the mutton pieces
- Once cooked pour thick coconut milk .Simmer for 2 mins on low flame. At this stage, check the spice level and if you feel you need more, add pepper powder.
- Turn off the stove and add the lime juice. Mutton pepper curry/kulambu is ready to serve
